The Project was a 1,000,000 sq. ft., $100,000,000.00 tertiary care hospital
with approximately 600 private patient rooms and complete auxiliary
facilities with nineteen (19) surgery suites and extensive radiology.
Additionally, there was an 1800 car parking garage and People-Mover tram
system, transporting patients, staff and visitors from several locations
within the facility. HOK of St. Louis, Missouri was the Architect, with the
Mechanical and Electrical designers located in Los Angeles, California.
Turner Construction Company was the Construction Manager representing Duke
University and responsible for the overall construction, managing its
fifty‑seven (57) prime Contractors. The Electrical portion of the Project
had started in 1975 and scheduled for completion in 1978. Numerous changes
and design defects protracted the construction period by thirteen (13)
months, until November 1979.
BRITTON was retained by the Electrical Contractor to act as Project
Manager for its work and develop the required data base to support its loss
of efficiency and impact claims. BRITTON assisted Counsel through an
extensive litigation by preparing extensive depositions and preparing all
demonstrative graphics for trial. A settlement was reached just prior to
trial. |
